Pittsburgh: The “Backyard Brawl” has been played for 98 years. WVU and Pitt have been playing football games for 98 straight years, representing the nation’s 14th oldest football rivalry. More than 400 NFL players, 100 first-team All-Americans, 57 consensus All-Americans and nearly 30 first round NFL draft picks have taken part in this yearly rivalry game.
Syracuse: Each season, the rival football programs battle for the Ben Schwartwalder Trophy
Maryland: The two football schools have played every season since 1980. As of 2005, the head-to-head series was tied, 21-21-2
Other Traditions:
Mountaineer Marching Band, AKA “The Pride of West Virginia”, have been performing at the Mountaineer home games for 30+ years. Known for their formation of the state of WV on the fifty yard line during every pregame
Take Me Home, Country Roads: This John Denver song has been a gameday staple for over 30 years.
Tailgating:Saturdays just aren’t right without the pregame…and postgame tailgates. Hamburgers, hotdogs, beer and keg stands are a must. We bet that you won’t find a better tailgating school in the country…guaranteed

    I read a comment the Coach Stewart said last night after the game and I Quote “There is a lot of heartache in that locker room,But they’ll grow and get better and I thank the seniors for being such great leaders. It was a fantastic effort they gave and I’m just sorry that they came up short.” End Quote. I’m sorry but the only thing that came up “SHORT” last night was the coaches ablitiy to make the calls and play smart football. Coach Stewart is not ready in his career to be the head coach on the WVU team. To take a top 10 team and within 3 games drop them possibly to being unranked is an imbarasment to WVU football. Coach Stewart needs to rethink his style of coaching and rebuild the Mountineers standings.If he can’t do this then maybe WVU should start looking for someone who can make the calls and win games againt unranked teams.
